The reason why I call this city as the city of gardens is that it is a home to many stunning and lush green parks and gardens that enhance the beauty of the city, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh is known for its botanical garden among the fans of flora. It was back in 2002 when the administration of U.T. laid its foundation stone and since then, this botanical garden has been attracting loads of tourists.
Till date, this beautiful botanical garden consists of 15 sections. The purpose behind this botanical garden was not only to encourage the research and education but was also to spread the awareness about the floral heritage of the city even better, the country.
Since the development of the botanical garden, the eco-tourism in Chandigarh has raised significantly.
What can you find in Chandigarh Botanical Garden?
Botanical Garden, Chandigarh spreads over 40 acres of land and is home to more than 75 species of medicinal trees in addition to other 55 species of medicinal herbs, shrubs, and climbers. Here, you can find the tree species like Harar, Behara, Neem, Amla, Maulsari, Bael, Sandalwood, Puntranjeeva, Camphor, etc alongside medicinal herbs such as Giloy, Gokhru, Ghritkumari, Ashwagandha, Bringraj, etc. Well, this is not the complete list. This garden is full of several interesting and impressive creation of nature. Along with all this, you can also find 22 species of bamboos and 3 species of canes.
As mentioned before, since the development of this botanical garden in the city, the eco-tourism has risen significantly and the research has become more frequent and impressive.
Some Other Features of this famous Botanical Garden
At Gate No.1 in Botanical garden, there is an office dedicatedly working as Nature interpretation centre. There is also one conference hall that can easily accommodate more than 100 people, in addition to that there is a small library with books on medicinal plants, wildlife, environment, and many different sets of magazines on ecology and environment.
Other Key Points to see in Chandigarh Botanical Garden
Lakes & Other Water Bodies – There are two primary lakes built in this garden of Chandigarh. Both these lakes have been developed along Patiala-Ki-Rao. The primary purpose of these lakes is to harvest rainwater and are aesthetically designed to act as percolation tanks. They also have plans to add a few boats in the lake to promote eco-tourism. There are 5 more water bodies that have been developed inside this garden that has been designed for the same purpose.
Meditation Huts – There are two rain shelters that act as a perfect place to meditate in Chandigarh Botanical Garden. For people who love to meditate around the lush green environment, this place is perfect for them.
These are some of the key features of Chandigarh Botanical Garden that one should not ignore when there. I being a nature lover have admired every corner of this place and have found it highly impressive.
