This old restaurant boasts of Coca-Cola themed interiors and beat up wooden furniture that gives the restaurant a very casual look and the owners are not a bit serious about the tacos. The corn here is imported from Mexico and then soaked and ground in-house. Then the tortillas are griddled to fulfill the order. We get the best tortillas ever in the restaurant to give you the authentic taste of Mexico and the filling is impeccable.

The other delicacies are carnitas, juicy tendrils of corned pork shoulder. You have the dessert option of a pina colada tres leches cake smothered in caramelized awesome pineapple and other delights.

COCINA ECONOMICA (Best Mexican Restaurants)

A new addition to the latest group of Mexican restaurants is hidden in one of the town’s quietest corners, but midweek, the place is full and everyone is tipsy over margaritas and sangria served out of clay pots. There are large platters of slow-cooked meat by the pound, served with rice and beans, pickled onions, and a lot of tortillas. Then there are the pork ribs wrapped in banana leaves and slow-roasted over the coals in a marinade of achiote, chipotle, and guajillo chilies. EL CATRIN

It is a houseful of tourists and Distillery condo dwellers, all enjoying their time with lots of margaritas. The chef makes Mexican food for the masses that are a favorite and enjoyed on the patio that is well decorated with chandeliers and firepits. They are served with guacamole, crushed tableside with a pestle, and comes with salty home-made tortilla chips. This combo is paired with a margarita and is enough for a good night. Hunks of cod are stuffed into the Baja tacos and are coated with crispy beer batter and covered in a creamy chipotle coleslaw. They are pretty crisp and filling as far as the fish goes. To finish it you can gorge on tres leches cake and call it a night.

EL REY (Best Mexican Restaurants)

This is a Mexican bar with inspiration from mescal. It is located in Kensington. There are nearly 40 kinds of cocktails that are served here in this bar. It is decorated with clay copitas that cover the tables of the lantern-lit patio. The short menu is a mix of Tex-Mex cliches with the traditional ingredients and preparations. Yet the food is crispy and is not too serious.

EL TROMPO

The patio of this place is the best place to see the day turn into night in Kensington. The room is well lit with bright colors and sombreros on coat racks. You can start with creamy cilantro-flecked guacamole that gets the freshness from tomatoes and onions and from the cilantro. GRAND ELECTRIC

The founders started this joint in 2011 as a Parkdale taqueria and bourbon bar. But getting a table in this restaurant can make you wait till one hour even on weeknights. As you enter the restaurant you are greeted by the ever-friendly staff and are treated as a friend. The many options of the taco are the Baja fish, Arbol chicken, and beef shoulder dressed with cilantro, onion, and lime curd with a pile of whipped cream. Finish the meal with a sweet-tart, a little trashy but totally enjoyable.

It is an integral part of a chain of joints with the same trendy branding that embodies so many taco joints. This financial district location acts more of a grown-up only because of the size of a dressing room. It has two floors that are filled with diners who are keen on tacos piled with fillings that it is difficult to eat with grace.it has a very elaborate menu to choose from. I will not indulge in an elaborate explanation of the recipe but I promise the taste and freshness of the food served here.

LOS COLIBRIS

This joint replenishes the beauty of Mexican cuisine. The chilled corn soup, a harmony of gentle spices, bittersweet bell pepper, and perfect pop of texture from a lightly sugared grape, is a testament to the founder and fine dining experience from the local ingredients and the southern border techniques. Wrapped in a tortilla the soft strands of poblano pepper draped over tender nuggets of chicken in a bechamel like sauce feels like a warm hug from your favorite Abuela. And to top it all there is a special Mexican doughnut that is freshly fried, cruller-shaped churros sprinkled with sugar and spiced with chocolate shavings. A cute arch separates the main dining hall from the courtyard that is cooled by the subtle breeze despite the formality of the banquettes, linens, and portraiture that dominate the space.

MILAGRO (Best Mexican Restaurants)

There are two locations of this middle-of-the-road restaurant. It feels like part of the big chain of joints that is much larger. It has a ridiculously large menu. The interior is decorated with cactus and every dish here is a favorite dish. The rooftop patio is a heaven in the summers and the margaritas are merely enjoyable in the season. The creamy guacamole is the best to start the meal.
